Gang History Walking Tour in Khayelitsha
- About 4 hours
This township walking tour gives you in-depth history about Khayelitsha, its culture and how gangs impact the community. The 18 Gangster Museum team will unpack the gang history, its consequences and their learnings. Meet former gang members who have transformed and are now contributing positively in shaping their society.
The walk starts with engaging with the local community. Learn how to greet in Xhosa (“Molweni”), chat to the locals and experience the vibrant life in the second largest township in South Africa.
Throughout the walk, we'll take you for a quick coffee at Sikis coffee shop, visit the local “green” bakery and stroll through the Khayelitsha Mall and Wall of Remembrance.
The tour then continues by taking a local taxi to 18 Gangster Museum and spend a session with reformed ex-prisoners before meeting the kids at the local Kindergarden (Chreche).
The day ends with a nice South African “braai” (barbecue) at the local joint Rands.

This is a great place for Khayelitsha and I think everyone in and around the area should really support it 100% or more.
The place is amazing and informative, had many great experiences, so go out there and have your own story to tell
Amazing experience and great tour guide who was actually a gang member himself and gave us in depth stories about what being in a gang really entails. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Khayleithsha
